Space Walk: Galaxies M81 and M82 in Ursa Major

Space Walk Among the Stars logo, consisting of five-pointed star with legs walking.
M81 and M82 are two of the brighter galaxies visible in small telescopes. They are located in the constellation Ursa Major, just off the "bowl" of the Big Dipper asterism, which is part of Ursa Major. They are quite close to each other and show different aspects, so make an interesting comparison. Several supernovas, or exploding stars, have been visible in M81 over the years.
